Company Description

Curtin Springs is a diversified pastoral and tourism business in Central Australia. We are 85km east of Ayers Rock Resort and 360km south west of Alice Springs.

The million acre Curtin Springs Station has been home to the Severin family since 1956 and the family still own and operate the business today.

We run a conservative herd of primarily Murray Grey cattle, with an AI program that introduces regular genetics of Murray Grey and Belgian Blue cross bulls and heifers into the herd.

We rely entirely on bores for our permanent waters and all station bores are now solar.

We have a number of full working yards across the station to take advantage of the 22 different land types, with the huge diversity of native pasture grasses that allow us to run our production system even though our rain cycle is usually 7-10 years long.

We run a longitudinal herd, so we don’t run a buy and sell a lot of cattle on a turnover basis. We prefer to allow the cows (particularly) to hold the corporate wisdom of the herd. They know where to go for  the first or last green pick and their long term understanding of the weather patterns allows them to respond quickly to some green pick, the know how to find the longer term feed easily and they hold condition for a long time as condition start to turn.

We have a very high need for staff members to be flexible and skills across multiple areas. Good mechanic skills, fabrication knowledge, fencing, general maintenance and of course cattle handling skills. But the most important skills are flexibility and self drive.

We are a diversified business, so if something needs to happen in one part of the business, all staff are responsible to assist.

We have a range of different accommodation options available and can offer 2 bedroom family accommodation as well as self contained couple accommodation or single room/shared bathroom options as well. Availability does depend on existing staffing.

We work under Enterprise Agreements, both on the tourism and pastoral sides of the business.

A weekly board and accommodation charge is applied to all staff. Meals are provided in a communal area.

Staff are able to connect to internet connections through NBN satellite. Some staff accommodation have their own connections, others have shared connections. Currently we have Optus phone coverage and Telstra is supposed to be connected shortly.
