Job Description

Eva Downs, which borders on the western side of Anthony Lagoon, is located approximately 300km north east from Tennant Creek. Eva Downs is set in the hub of the Northern Territory’s Barkly Tablelands on the historic Barkly Stock route.

The Bore Runner may perform a range of activities regarding the daily run and refuelling of station bores, maintaining turkey nests and surrounding fences.

Daily Duties will consist of, but not limited to:

  • Maintain bore, turkey nest level, nest fence, troughs, motors and pump jacks and helical rotors
  • Pre-start checks of vehicles including fuel
  • Check and gather all equipment and maintenance supplies for the day
  • Operate a range of hand tools
  • Fill fuel tanks to required amount to refill water supply
  • Start pumps- crank handle start for diesel motor, a range of pumping systems are used including windmills, diesel and solar pumps, each requires different maintenance
  • Check all pipe work and maintain if required
  • Undo trough bungs to empty and clean troughs; use large hand tools on bung and curved broom to clean and scrub troughs
  • Check trough floats when troughs are refilled
  • Travel 300-500kms per day on station dirt roads
  • Ensure vehicle serviced regularly
  • In each paddock check waterholes, dams and fence lines
  • Visual checks; use of hand tools to carry out minor fence repairs
  • Report any problems and conditions of infrastructure

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Current Drivers Licence and Heavy Rigid Licence
  • Demonstrated competency in all tasks reasonably required of a Bore Mechanic
  • Ability to work both alone and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to organise/prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, whilst working under pressure
  • Mature and rational approach to problem solving
  • Flexibility – able to meet changing requirements
