The cattle industry is the largest industry in the NT’s primary production sector. Brahman cattle make up the majority of the herd but we also have Hereford, Santa Gertrudis, Black Angus and Droughtmaster. In Central Australia a lot of the beef produced is organic.
The beef industry employs 10, 000 people directly and indirectly. For every one dollar of output in the Cattle industry, it creates 50c of out put in the rest of the NT economy.Source: NT Government data collection and the Mercado report.
